FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What
exactly do I get for my money?
On average, you will enjoy around 40 days’ use of our bikes per year, although far greater usage can be gained by judicious points usage. If you’re still not convinced, bear in mind that few owners of touring bikes actually drive them for more than 30 days in a year, and that only the seriously super-rich have access to the range of models offered through this riding plan.
Can I buy more points at any time?
If you use up your points allocation before the end of your year, you can buy an upgrade package that gives you further points. If you have unused points at the end of your year, you can roll 50% of them over to each of the following two years’ allocations (i.e. 100% in total: 50% for the next year and the other 50% for the year after that).
How long can I have a bike
for?
The maximum length of any
individual booking is Twenty One days. During that time, you’re free to use the
bike as your own. There are no mileage restrictions, no insurance deposits and
no hidden extras to pay. Use of the bikes in Southern Africa States is
possible.
Are there any restrictions
on joining?
Subscriptions is offered to anyone qualifying under the criteria set by the Club’s insurers: anyone over the age of 25 who can provide a reference from a suitable person and whose driving record is within reasonable limits. The Club will make any enquiries necessary to establish the suitability of an applicant for membership, and reserves the right to refuse membership to any applicant without reason. The insurers, on an individual basis, will consider applicants who fall outside the above restrictions, taking into account factors such as their driver and insurance profile.
Where is my nearest bike collection point?
Cape Town will be start of operations but we
foresee the opening of the Johannesburg location within a short period.
Do
I need to own a bike to make use of Steelstable?
No, the whole idea behind Steelstable
is for people who want to drive these bikes but don't want the hassles and
costs that go along with ownership. It is an affordable alternative to owning.
Many of our members, however, do already own a fun weekend bike or two and love
the flexibility Steelstable allows them.
All bikes have less than 40 000km on the clock. They are in excellent condition. Moreover, the mechanical condition of each bike is pristine.
Can I switch bikes and try several?
That's what Steelstable is all about. You can use a different bike every day, or keep one bike for a weekend. Owning your own bike isn't nearly as fun!
Are there km restrictions?
The number of km’s you drive is unlimited.
Do I need my own bike insurance?
No we take care of the insurance. You are however liable for any excess in the event of you damaging your bike.
Will I have trouble operating my bike?
Each bike has its own charm and character. In addition to the various biking courses (Introduction to Off-road, Intermediate and Advance) that you can attend, Steelstable ensures you are comfortable on each bike you use by providing a comprehensive "driver control tutorial".
How do I reserve a bike?
You can call us or reserve your bike through the internet on the private members only site. Bikes are reserved in advance, on a first-come, first-served
basis.
Why is a point system used?
A 650 is not equivalent to a 1200 GS ADV, nor is an 800 to a LT. All are unique
and desirable bikes; however, a point system allows you to maximize your point
usage.
Do I have to return my bike clean?
All of our bikes are thoroughly detailed for your pick up, and once again when you drop it off.
